The Psychological Dynamics of Religious Experience (It Doesn't Fall Down From Heaven)Godin, Andre
This overview of religious experience by a man who calls himself a Freudian Christian is in three parts. The first is on "Functional Religious Experiences" (1 chapter). Part II is on "Experiences of God" (4 chapters), and the last part is on "Experience of Self or Transforming Experience in Faith" (2 chapters). In "A Backward Glance and Conclusion," Godin writes: "This book . . . brings together ex- periences that are sometimes called Christian. The reader . . . is invited in to dare to call by their (psychological) names experiences which . . . do not fall from heaven" (p. 251). There is a useful "thematic glossary" of terms drawn from the psychology of religion and the unconscious.
