Where Science and Magic Meet

Roney-Dougal, Serena

Psychologist/parapsychologist Roney-Dougal observes that today "the meeting between science and magic is part of the evolution of our times, part of the evolution of consciousness that is happening whether one likes it or not, whether we are consciously working for it or not" (p. 1). She writes: "In this book I shall first of all discuss certain aspects of parapsychology, which uses the scientific method to investigate the tools of magic. In parapsychology we have the clearest bonding between science and magic. I shall show how the essential philosophy behind modern quantum physics is akin to that of the pagan world-view that seems to be emerging. . . . I shall present some research of mine into the pineal gland which fuses the ancient teachings of the East with regard to the chakras and the third eye or second sight of the West, with modern neurochemistry, and I shall link this with modern earth mysteries, the fairy faith and the popular modern view of paganism and witchcraft. I love doing jigsaw puzzles and I have been busy with this jigsaw for fifteen years now. At times it feels like I am weaving, bringing together many threads or strands into one piece. The picture that is emerging is fun, fascinating and very exciting. I hope you enjoy reading about my travels as much as I have enjoyed travelling this path" (p. 5).
