Multiple Man: Explorations in Possession and Multiple Personality Crabtree, Adam
Attempts a fresh evaluation of the phenomena of possession and multiple personality "in order to derive a new understanding of man's experience of himself." The book is in four parts. In the first Crabtree examines multiple consciousness in human beings, beginning with Mesmerism and covering some of the landmark cases in the history of the subject. In the second part he deals with possession cases from ancient times to date and the various attempts made to cure victims of possession. The third part is concerned with Crabtree's own possession therapy. He describes forms of possession not generally cited in the earlier literature. The final section consists of attempts to explain the phenomena of possession and multiple personality. In the final chapter, "An Integral View of Multiple Man," he presents his own speculations concerning possession and multiple personality.
