Extrasensory Deception: ESP, Psychics, Shirley MacLaine, Ghosts, UFOsGordon, Henry
The book is an anthology of commentaries by magician-journalist-debunker Gordon in his column in the Toronto Sunday Star. There are eight sections: "The Paranormal," "Prophecy," "Spirits," "Superstition," "Science," "Higher Life," "Healing," and "Truth." Throughout he shows how mentalism, or "sleight of mind," which practices the methods of deception, is the means used by psychics to accomplish their feats. The difference between a mentalist and a psychic is that the former admits he uses deception. Individual psychics discussed are Uri Geller, Kreskin, Peter Hurkos, Tommy Roberts, and Edgar Cayce. Because it lacks an index it is a difficult book to use, especially considering the many individual subjects covered.
