Open Mind, Discriminating Mind: Reflections on Human Possibilities

Tart, Charles T.

This is a collection of essays originally published in The Open Mind, a periodical the author published for a 4-year period. It is aimed at "people who want to keep questioning and expanding their concepts about who they are and what their possibilities are" (p. xi). Tart writes: "This book is my way of sharing some excitement, some possibilities, and some solutions to the human problems we all face in trying to open our minds and hearts. My goal in each chapter is to stimulate you to question your assumptions about yourself and to offer possibilities for psychic and spiritual growth" (p. xiii). There are 6 parts. The first is on dreams (4 chapters), the second is on psychic phenomena (47 chapters), the third is on psychological growth (6 chapters), the fourth is on spiritual growth (6 chapters), the fifth is on meditation (3 chapters), and the sixth has 3 chapters on death. Each chapter is followed by a list of suggested readings.
