Cases of the Reincarnation Type, Volume I. Ten Cases in India

Stevenson, Ian

Ian Stevenson, former head of the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Virginia, has long been the world's foremost authority on the scientific investigation of reincarnation. This is the initial volume in a series aimed at providing detailed reports of reincarnation-type cases in Asia and the Mideast. Each case was investigated personally by Stevenson, sometimes over a long period of time. The account of each case begin with a summary of the case and of the investigation of it, followed by complete background material based primarily on firsthand testimony. Each account ends with Stevenson's discussion of its weak and strong features. The first volume has a long General Introduction in which Stevenson gives an updated description of his methods of investigation and, as he puts it, "an analysis of the ineradicable—but, I trust, not fatal—sources of error they retain" (p. ix). There is a chapter describing the Hindu belief in reincarnation and a summary of the cases from India.
