Claims of Reincarnation: An Empirical Study of Cases in IndiaPasricha, Satwant
The basis for this work is the author's Ph.D thesis submitted to Bangalore University in 1978. Using a modification of the research methodology employed by Ian Stevenson, Pasricha reports on her investigation of 76 claims of reincarnation-type experiences, 45 of which meet her criteria and were individually investigated later. The first six chapters are based on her doctoral research. In Chapter 7 she summarizes the research she has done since involving reincarnation-type cases, possession, and near-death experiences. Her ideas concerning future research are discussed in the last chapter. After an introduction, the second chapter reviews previous work on reincarnation. The methodology used in her dissertation research is set forth next, followed by a chapter summarizing her results. In Chapter 5 she discusses her results, including 10 hypotheses in addition to reincarnation that might account for the data. She also compares her results with those of Stevenson and notes some particular features of Indian cases compared with those from other cultures. The list of references is lengthy and the subject index detailed.
