Symbols of Transformation in Dreams Clift, Jean Dalby, & Clift, Wallace B.
Two Jungian-trained pastoral counselors provide an introduction to transformative symbols in dreams. The symbols are viewed as archetypes, as in the Jungian tradition. Part I, "The Language of Dreams," consists of six chapters on dreams, the unconscious, symbolic languages, approaching the dream, and two on amplification. The second part, "Some Motifs of Transformation," consists of ten chapters. The first provides a general discussion on the transformation of personality. The remainder deal with specific symbolic situations in which particular archetypes are constellated in dreams: the persona, shadow, anima, animus, snakes, the trickster, and rebirth, other transformation motifs, and the self. The authors use language comprehensible to the lay person to show how the energy of dream imagery may be used to gain spiritual wholeness.
