Science and Supernature: A Critical Appraisal of ParapsychologyAlcock, James E.
This is a critical evaluation "of the best research that parapsychology has produced" (p. 2). It is composed of two long papers, one his "Science of the Anomalous or Search for the Soul" that was originally published in Behavioral and Brain Sciences in 1987. The second is a Background Paper Alcock was commissioned to prepare for the Committee on Techniques for the Enhancement of Human Performance of the National Research Council of the United States (NRC). Entitled "Psi in the Laboratory," it examines in detail remote-viewing experiments and research with RNGs. It includes an experiment-by-experiment analysis of Helmut Schmidt's published research. In the Introduction Alcock presents his view of the NRC report, the OTA workshop that followed, and the response of parapsychologists.
