The Secret Life of Kids: An Exploration into Their Psychic Senses

Peterson, James W.

This is an expansion of the author's Master's thesis at the University of California (Berkeley). Peterson is an educator and teaches a course on "Psychic and Spiritual Development of Children" at John F. Kennedy University. The book is founded on 17 years of exploring the psychic world of children in which he discovered that "the various forms of paranormal experience are surprisingly common, much more than in adult life" (p. 2) (occurring 7% more often, according to a survey he conducted). One chapter is devoted to the history of psi phenomena in childhood. Accounts and anecdotes of various psychic experiences described to him by the children involved are presented in the heart of the book. An evolutionary view of psi in children, drawing on the ideas of Joseph Chilton Pearce, is presented in Chapter 11. He discusses this developmental approach further in the next chapter, leaning on the theories of Rudolf Steiner, Phoebe Payne, and Laurence Bendit. One chapter consists of an interview with Olga Worrall regarding her childhood experiences. Another discusses how teachers, parents, and friends can relate to psychic children and help them to cope with their experiences, while yet another is critical of "new age" spiritual practices for children. In the final chapter, Peterson speculates on what the future may hold for psychic children.
