The Psychic Sourcebook: How to Choose and Use a PsychicLevine, Frederick G.
This book, by a freelance writer specializing in New Age topics, is intended as a guide to those who seek information from psychics, mediums, fortune tellers, etc., with a view to making the most of the experience. Levine sees the visit to a psychic as a means of self-change. The book also attempts to clear up misconceptions about psychics and what they do. Chapter 1, "What Is a Psychic?" attempts to cover too much in too small a space. Chapter 2, "How to Use a Psychic," provides a good overview of many psychic applications. The third chapter, "How to Choose a Psychic," explains what to look for, where to look, and what to watch out for. Chapter 4, "The Psychic Reading," covers various psychic modes by which psychics function: psychometry, ESP, Tarot, I Ching, channeling, astrology, psychic healing, etc. The fifth chapter tells how to get ready for a visit to a psychic, while the sixth explains how to interpret the psychic's reading. The brief conclusion proposes that "whatever psychic you choose will have something to give you—if you are willing to take it" (pp. 346-347). Appendix A provides a brief—and quite incomplete—history of psychic phenomena. Appendix B is a directory of resources, psychics’organizations, services, and publications. Emphasis is on popular rather than scholarly sources.
