The Near-Death Experience: A ReaderBailey, Lee W., & Yates, Jenny (Eds.).
This excellent anthology was called into being partly to answer the need of the authors in teaching courses about issues related to death. The Introduction is a mini-tour to what is known about NDEs. The book itself consists of 24 chapters by NDEers and NDE researchers and other scholars. They are not arranged by topic, but this is ably rectified by the mini-tour, which provides an overview of all the key aspects of NDEs, with reference to the works of the authors of the chapters as well as others. The topics covered in some detail in the Introduction, as well as by key chapters in the text, are What Are the Types of Near-Death Experiences? How Widespread are NDEs? Do Children Have NDEs? Do Some People Have Distressing NDEs? and What Aftereffects Do NDEs Have? Interpretations of NDEs: Biological, Psychological, Philosophical, Religious. The authors of chapters are Raymond Moody, Mellen-Thomas Benedict, Betty Eadie, Dannion Brinkley, Lee W. Bailey (2), George Ritchie, Cary G. Jung, Marie-Louise von Franz, Michael Grosso, Jenny Yates, Sogyal Rinpache, Kenneth Ring, Ian Stevenson and Bruce Greyson, Bruce Greyson and Nancy Bush, P.M.H. Atwater, Robert Kastenbaum, Karl Jansen, Susan Blackmore, Melvin Morse, Charles Tart, Carol Zaleski, David Lorimer, and Judith Cressey.
