Creative Meditation and Multi-Dimensional ConsciousnessGovinda, Anagarika
Govinda was raised in Germany, but has lived most of his adult life in India. He thus can understand the problems of both Eastern and Western traditions, and he hopes "that this book will be a bridge between these two worlds . . . an incentive for others to cross the bridge in both directions" (p. ix). The system of meditation set forth is primarily that of Tibetan Buddhism, which is the way Govinda has followed. Part I, "The Spiritual Unfoldment of Buddhism: The Way from Its Doctrinal Formulation to Its Meditational Integration," contains ten chapters. In another ten chapters he sets forth "The Basic Elements of Vajrayana Meditation" in Part 2. Part 3 consists of seven chapters on "Meditation as Direct Experience and Spiritual Attitude." Part 4, "Art and Meditation," has six chapters. "Contemplative Thoughts" are presented in 12 chapters in Part 5. The final part, "Dimensions of Consciousness," is comprised of six chapters, which emphasize Buddhist views of time and space.
