Lucid DreamingLaBerge, Stephen
Begins with a history of lucid dreaming, or the ability to be awake and aware of dreaming while at the same time remaining asleep and dreaming. LaBerge describes research that establishes that lucid dreaming is a fact. He also presents techniques to use to become a lucid dreamer and shows how to use lucid dreaming as a means of forwarding personal growth, well-being, and enhancing creativity. Parapsychological phenomena are discussed in a chapter entitled "Dreaming, Illusion, and Reality." He proposes that "OBEs are . . . variant interpretations of lucid dreams" and that dream telepathy provides" the basis for an explanation of the occasional accuracy of paranormal OBE vision" (p. 206). He further suggests that a lucid dream laboratory provides an optional situation for the investigation of shared dreams. In the next chapter he explores the question of survival of death based on information gained from lucid dreams and NDEs. He suggests that "your essential being transcends space and time: your transpersonal identity transcends your personal identity. This, your transpersonal individuality, may in the end prove identical with the nature of ultimate reality" (p. 246).
