Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain: A Course in Enhancing Creativity and Artistic Confidence (rev. ed) Edwards, Betty
This revision of Edwards' much appreciated book retains the same overall strategy, which she writes is "to explain in basic terms the relationship of drawing to visual, perceptual brain processes and to provide methods of accessing, and controlling these processes" (p. xiii). She describes how learning perception via the act of right-brained drawing can enable a person to experience a more direct and holistic form of seeing. "This new way of seeing may alone be reason enough to learn to draw" (p. xiv). Emphasized in this new edition is her concept of the five basic components of the global drawing skill, which she did not envision until after the first edition was published, when it entered her consciousness as a typical "aha" experience. Much of the book is taken up with describing these five aspects.
