Heading Toward Omega: In Search of the Meaning of the Near-Death Experience

Ring, Kenneth

Ring's Heading Toward Omega is a provocative work. In it he explores the transformative effects of NDEs and discusses their implications. Based on three years of research using questionnaires and interviews, Ring suggests that those who undergo these transformations may play an important role in taking the next step in human evolution, with planet-wide implications. He hopes that the deeper spirituality of the transformed NDErs will promote peace on earth, especially if their increasing number approaches the critical mass required for significant species-wide change. (An estimated 8 million Americans have thus far reported having had a near-death experience.) The chapter titles are as follows: (1) "NDEs on the Road to Omega," (2) "NDEs: What We Know," (3) "Core NDEs and Spiritual Awakening," (4) "NDEs and Personal Transformation," (5) "Value Changes Induced by NDEs," (6) "Religious and Spiritual Orientations Following NDEs," (7) "NDEs and Psychic Development," (8) "Planetary Visions of Near-Death Experiencers," (9) "Biological Basis of NDEs," (10) "NDEs and Human Evolution."
