In this book about new forms of spirituality, journalist Miller views traditional religions as separate from Earth, whereas the forms of spirituality that are emerging today see "the world of matter as divine and as worthy of love as the immaterial spiritual realm" (p. xii). It "gives rise to an ecological vision that honors the planet and its multitude of species as a single living entity with whom we can learn to live in greater harmony and reverence" (p. xii). The forms of spirituality described are Judeo-Christian renewal, shamanism, spirituality and psychology, mythology, dreams, popular self-help groups, feminine spirituality, the men's movement, 12-step spirituality, mind/body approaches, spiritual breakthrough art, science, and business, ecology, compassionate action, and the shadows.
