Awakening Your Psychic Powers (Foreword by Charles Thomas Cayce)

Reed, Henry

This is a volume in the new Harper & Row series entitled "Edgar Cayce’s Wisdom for the New Age," which is published in conjunction with the Association for Research and Enlightenment and is based on the teachings of the psychic Edgar Cayce. Reed, who is a psychologist, writes in the Preface that his primary aim is to make the psychic real to the reader. Part I, "The Psychic Imagination," consists of three chapters that attempt to explain the nature of reality and the role of psi in that reality. Part II, "Psychic States of Awareness," describes various psi phenomena and ways of inducing them (specifically, intuition, dreams, meditation, and hypnosis). The third part contains three chapters that theorize about the role played by the soul, the mind, and the body in psi awareness. The final part, "Developing Psychic Awareness," presents some exercises and experiments and also discusses "the ultimate purpose of psychic awareness" (p. xi), which he thinks is the development of psi ability in humanity at large, beginning with small groups and extending to the species as a whole.
