Recollections of Death: A Medical InvestigationSabom, Michael B.
This volume describes Michael Sabom's pioneer attempt to investigate the near-death experiences of persons suffering from cardiac arrest or other life-threatening crises. He describes the background of his research, which was an attempt to examine more carefully and repeat in as controlled an environment as possible the findings reported by Raymond Moody. He hoped to answer with his research several questions raised by reading Moody. He analyzes the results of his research and describes it in the book. He distinguishes between the autoscopic NDE and the transcendental NDE. There are chapters on the "after experiences" of NDE survivors, implications of the NDE, explanations, and a final chapter in which he presents his thoughts on the meaning of the NDE. Fifteen tables setting forth his results are presented in an Appendix.
