The Power of Dreams

Inglis, Brian

The dream accounts presented in this volume were sent to the Koestler Foundation as a result of an appeal for unusual dreams published in the Telegraph Sunday Magazine in 1985. Hundreds of accounts were received, and Inglis has grouped them by broad subject for purposes of this book. The topics covered are inspiration from dreams, problem-solving in dreams, dreams and second sight, precognitive dreams, lucid dreams, and dream interpretation. As is evident, the thrust of the book is that dreams can serve useful purposes, albeit in a generally irrational way. The difficulty in Western society, at least, is that too much weight has been placed on rationality. A bibliography is included emphasizing works on the usefulness of dreams. Unfortunately, publisher's names are omitted. The index consists primarily of proper names, with a few subject headings interspersed.
