The Sacred Athlete: On the Mystical Experience and Dionysios, Its Westernworld Fountainhead

Blum, Richard, & Golitzin, Alexander

The first part consists of 11 chapters on "Getting From Here to There," or the style of mystical consciousness. The second part is on "Being There," in which the mystical or Dionysian vision is described. Part III has three chapters on the return journey, and deals with artistic creativity and secularizing mysticism. The last part is an annotated bibliography on Dionysius, the sacred athlete (i.e., perhaps one should better say, the athlete of the sacred). Although the authors make no claim to being exhaustive, they do try to cover the most significant and often cited books.
