What Survives? Contemporary Explorations of Life After DeathDoore, Gary (Ed.).
This is an anthology of articles written especially for this volume presenting new views of survival of death developing primarily in the 1980s. Part One is on the evidence, with an overview by Colin Wilson, Stanislav Grof on psychedelic and holotropic therapy, Robert Almeder on reincarnation, Arthur Berger on survival tests, Gordon Greene and Stanley Krippner on the life review, and D. Scott Rogo on spontaneous contact with the dead. Part Two is on the "challenge of materialism" with chapters by David Lorimer, Rupert Sheldrake, Mark B. Woodhouse, and Charles T. Tart. Part Three is on the perennial philosophy and survival, with contributions by Ram Dass, Georg Feuerstein, Ken Wilber, Sogyal Rinpoche, and Ken Ring. Part Four, on "transcendence of death," has provocative articles by Stephen Levine, Lisa Ann Mertz and Lorin Smith, Michael Grosso, David Feinstein, and Gary Doore. An Epilogue, "What Should We Believe?," points out that answering the question should involve more than simply reviewing the evidence: the consequences of belief and disbelief must also be taken into consideration. This is because we are creating the reality, or nonreality, even as we consider it.
