The Tao of Psychology: Synchronicity and the SelfBolen, Jean Shinoda
Each chapter presents a view of Jung's concept of synchronicity and the Oriental term, the Tao. Bolen, who is a Jungian analyst, proposes that synchronicity and the Tao are the same thing. She holds that "much of the value of synchronicity lies in its ability to connect us to a meaning-giving, intuitively known principle in our lives by which we can find a 'path with a heart,' a tao, a way to live in harmony with the universe. Synchronicity can provide us with confirmation that we are on the right path, as well as let us know when we are not." She likens synchronistic events to dreams, and suggests that they be interpreted after the manner of dreams. She also conceives of synchronicity as shedding light on parapsychological research. In a chapter devoted to parapsychology, she points out that the "archetype of the miracle" or the "archetype of 'magic effect,'" is at the core of psi.
