Poltergeists and the Paranormal: Fact Beyond FictionStander, Philip, & Schmolling, Paul
This is a collection of cases of poltergeist and other psychic phenomena taken from the professional literature and from first-hand reports the authors have gathered from apparently reliable witnesses. The authors discuss the possible explanations of the cases. The authors begin with some general and historical cases on "what is a poltergeist," a review of cases in ancient times, and another on early European cases, and a review of historical cases of incubi and succubi, witchcraft, on attacking poltergeists, and a case of stigmata (Padre Pio). Chapter 5 is devoted to a possible incubus attack/poltergeist experience. There follow general chapters on famous British cases and 19th-century European cases. Next come two examples of "electronic poltergeists," in which electronic and electric devices are interfered with by no recognizable means: the Rosenheim case and one described by Scott Rogo. "Noted American Cases" is next: The Bell Witch, and the Fox sisters. A chapter is devoted to the Seaford case. They include some poltergeist cases that are illumined by the psychoanalytic approach. The longest chapter is devoted to the medium Daniel Dunglas Home. After a chapter on laboratory work with psychics and PK experiments, the authors offer a closing theoretical chapter. They consider fraud; psychological, naturalistic explanations; RSPK; and survival phenomenon.
