The Realms of Healing (3rd ed.).Krippner, Stanley, & Villoldo, Alberto
This is a survey by two psychologists of unorthodox healers and their practices in various parts of the world. The work of individual healers is emphasized in the first four chapters. Three North American healers (Rolling Thunder, dona Pachita, and Olga Worrall) are dealt with in Chapter 1. There follows a chapter on Brazilian Spiritist healers, including psychic surgeons. Chapter 3 is on Maximo Gomez of Peru and Josef Zezulka of Czechoslovakia. Next is a chapter devoted to Josephina Sison and Filipino psychic surgeons. In all four chapters the world views that form the basis for the healing practices are set forth and statements of individual healers are provided. The fifth chapter is a review of laboratory studies of psychic healing, concluding with a discussion of why scientific investigations of healing are needed and the role that such investigations might play in revising the current world view or paradigm of science. The last chapter is entitled "How Healing Happens" and is a discussion of various models of healing, including the physical, the psychological, and the psychic.
