The Psychic Realm: What Can You Believe?Hintze, Naomi A., & Pratt, J. Gaither
Naomi Hintze is a novelist and mystery writer and Gaither Pratt was one of the first persons in the world to make a living fulltime as a parapsychologist. They cooperated to provide a comprehensive introduction to parapsychology using fresh material and language the average intelligent reader could easily comprehend. Their method of collaboration is unusual: Hintze contributes the first half of each chapter by vividly describing the subject of that chapter. Pratt, in the second half, evaluates the scientific evidence for the phenomenon under discussion. The subjects covered are ESP, clairvoyance, precognition, self-testing, anpsi, altered states of consciousness and psi, hauntings, poltergeists, Kulagina's PK, unorthodox healing, automatism of Patience Worth, possession, mediumship, survival, and reincarnation. This method of presentation makes it a useful introduction to parapsychology for students lacking a technical background. Its usefulness is enhanced by a seven-page bibliography.
