Harvard-trained physician-turned-novelist Crichton gives an account of many of his travels, outward and inward. Although presumably everything really happens as he tells it, the book reads more like fiction than autobiography. His "inner" travels include experiences with spiritualist mediums in London; sensing the presence of his father after he died, energy work with Brugh Joy, spoon-bending (he describes the optimum mental state), out-of-body experience; channeling (which he became good at); past life regressions (which he interprets as fantasy), feeling and seeing auras; and energy associated with chakras. On page 353 he lists his "inner travel prejudices." A postscript consists of a talk he prepared for the Pasadena chapter of CSICOP on the reality of various psychic and mystical experiences and the limitations of the scientific method. But he was never invited to speak! | |
