This is a collection of 38 of Gardner's articles and book reviews published from 1950 to 1980. Also included are letters from his readers and his responses to them, which make for lively reading. Each piece is updated and includes fresh information. The book is billed as a sequel to his Fads and Fallacies in the Name of Science, and it crusades for better understanding of the difference between bad and good science on the part of the public. He deliberately uses ridicule and humor because he considers it a waste of time to give rational arguments in dealing with the "extremes of unorthodoxy in science." Approximately three quarters of the book is on aspects of parapsychology.
