The Psychic MafiaKeene, M. Lamar, as told to Allen Spraggett
This book is by a former fraudulent medium who has since reformed and no longer engages in "mediumship" activities. He tells how he became a fake medium and describes all the tricks mediums use to make a living by duping people into believing they are in communication with deceased loved ones. He explains how to produce ectoplasm and apports, do billet reading, make predictions, and how to heal and levitate. Considerable space is devoted to the fraudulent practices at Camp Chesterfield, the famed spiritualist camp in Ohio. One chapter is devoted to sex in the seance room. There is a chapter on the history of mediumistic fraud and a useful 13-page bibliography of critical works in general, and of works on specific methods of mentalism as used by fraudulent mediums. Many of the titles are annotated.
