Therapeutic Touch: A Book of Readings

Borelli, Marianne D., & Heidt, Patricia (Eds.).

The editors view therapeutic touch within a holistic framework. They observe: "Therapeutic Touch is performed by the healer in a state of centeredness and with intentionality for the enhancement of the well-being of the healee" (p. viii). It is "based on the assumption that the human body is an energy field which is continually affecting and being influenced by fields outside itself" (p. viii). The existing research on therapeutic touch is presented in this volume. It also deals with explorations of clinical applications currently being used in various settings. There are three sections: three chapters presenting theoretical foundations of therapeutic touch, nine chapters on clinical applications and current research, and seven chapters on the responses of patients to therapeutic touch. Of the total of 19 chapters, only three were previously published.
