Toward a Science of Consciousness Pelletier, Kenneth R.
This is an attempt by a psychologist at Langley-Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute to integrate scientific findings and the wisdom of the East in a new holistic science of consciousness. The chapter headings reflect the contents: An Age of Transition; Quantum Physics and Consciousness; Between Psyche and Soma; Holograms and Human Consciousness; Biofeedback and Meditation; Beyond Psychosomatic Medicine; Life, Death, and Rebirth; and On the Evolution of Consciousness. Although the aim of the book is to provide an overall theory that will unify all the facts of human nature, it is grounded in research findings from many areas of study. He calls for scientists to corroborate what the mystics have always known, and for "the mapping of the phenomenology of consciousness through disciplined introspection" (p. 259). To achieve this he insists that meditation be linked to scientific method in creating a viable worldview capable of encompassing all facts.
