The Family Unconscious: "An Invisible Bond."Taub-Bynum, E. Bruce
There are five major themes evident in this book: quantum physics, family psychodynamics, yoga psychology, body energy research, and psi. Starting from a holistic model of the family as a unit, the binding agent sometimes being psi, the author, a psychotherapist, goes on to an experimental and theoretical discussion of the nature of the self. He draws out many connections between the insights of Eastern mysticism and the findings of modern physics. His insights and theories are firmly rooted in biology and physiology, but they spiral outward and inward to the limits of both the physical and the subjective worlds. The clinical observations and cases he presents are used to illustrate ideas concerning personal and interpersonal growth and to provide a context for psi. The author has obviously practiced what he preaches, and his theories are based not only on logic but on experience. There are 20 chapters in six sections. The outline of the book is provided by the six section titles: "The Enfolding Field"; "Family Dreams"; "The Radiant Organism"; "Psi, Dreams, and the Family Unconscious"; "Toward a New Paradigm: Psi, Physics, Psychology, and the Self"; and "The Common Stream."
