Therapeutic Touch: A Book of Readings. Foreword by Dolores Krieger

Borelli, Mariane D., & Heidt, Patricia (Eds.)

The editors view therapeutic touch within a holistic framework. "Therapeutic touch is performed by the healer in a state of centeredness and with the intentionality for the enhancement of the well-being of the healee." It is "based on the assumption that the human body is an energy field which is continually affecting and being influenced by fields outside itself." The existing research on which Therapeutic Touch is based is presented in this volume. It also deals with explorations of clinical applications currently being used in various settings. There are three sections: three chapters present theoretical foundations of therapeutic touch; nine chapters are on clinical applications and current research; and seven chapters are on the responses of patients to therapeutic touch. Of the total of 19 chapters only three were previously published.
