The Golden Chalice: A Collection of Writings by the Famous Soviet Parapsychologist and HealerIvanova, Barbara
This is a composite work written primarily to acquaint readers with the Russian researcher, teacher, and healer, Barbara Ivanova. It was written by Ivanova herself with contributions by the two editors, one an American psychologist who met Ivanova on a visit to Moscow (Maria Mir) and the other a Soviet psi researcher who worked with Ivanova in the USSR but who emigrated to the U.S. in 1979 (Vilenskaya). The editors write: "The major issue of the book is not Barbara's theoretical or experimental work in psi research, but Barbara herself, her spirituality, her love for all living creatures, her commitment to actions which will make our world a better place to live in" (p. xiii). The work begins with Mir's story of meeting Barbara in Moscow and being entrusted by her with her writings on parapsychology that she hoped could be published in the United States as a book. These writings and some others form the bulk of this book. Some of the chapters are written by Ivanova and Vilenskaya and some by Vilenskaya alone. There are sections on psychic healing, on phenomena that transcend current scientific concepts, on "exotic" areas of psi (reincarnation, electronic voice phenomena), on psi in animals, and a miscellaneous section. A bibliography of Ivanova's work is included.
