Invisible Lines of Connection: Sacred Stories of the OrdinaryKushner, Lawrence
This collection of autobiographical anecdotes by a rabbi and author of many books on spirituality I assumed would contain several accounts of EHEs. It does have some good synchronicities, but, as the subtitle clearly states: it is composed of "sacred stories of the ordinary." I decided not to include it. But I read a chapter a day—most are only 2 or 3 pages. Gradually I realized that each one in its way is an epiphany—a moment of recognition. And each provides a glimpse of the Experiential Paradigm. Many reveal how everything is interconnected. Some take you right inside. And all are facets of one diamond, which he describes at the end as follows: "Everything exists within and derives its reality from God, including us. We are dimensions of the divine psyche, seeking to become fully self-aware. And, when we raise our consciousness, we not only realize that we have never really been apart from our divine Source at all, we realize that we participate in the process itself" (p. 145). To those with "ears to hear" and "eyes to see," "usual life is the very Tao" (Lao-tse). Kushner indeed has those ears and eyes, and his last line could serve as the cornerstone of every EHE autobiography: "All theology is autobiography."
