River's Way: The Process Science of the DreambodyMindell, Arnold
Psychotherapist Mindell asks the reader to view this book "as an effort at bridging unnecessary divisions in psychotherapy, medicine and physics" (p. 7). He attempts to bring together therapies that were once considered separate such as massage, dream analysis, family therapy, analysis, and body work into one practice called process work. The aim of the process therapist is to discover the pattern behind the process in a multitude of situations. He says: "Process work is modernized Taoism in the sense that the process worker tries to appreciate the flow of the river and to help clients adjust to this flow" (p. 6). The first part of the book is about "process and channels," with a chapter each devoted to elements of process science, body channels, relationship channels, and world channels. The second part delves into the roots of process concepts. There are chapters on process mythology, channels in Taoism, I Ching patterns, the opus in alchemy, and river's way. The process approach to signals coming from within and without promotes a sensitivity to one's self and one's environment (and beyond it, the world) that should be illuminating to those who are interested in exceptional human experience.
