The Stormy Search for the Self: A Guide to Personal Growth Through Transformational Crisis
Grof, Christina, & Grof, Stanislav
|
This work is aimed at people involved in any aspect of spiritual emergency--those
who are actually undergoing it or who have experienced a crisis of transformation,
their families and friends, and those who are involved in counseling such persons.
It is also intended as a guide for anyone involved in personal transformation. The difficult aspects of spiritual crisis are emphasized. The idea of spiritual emergency is described and clarified in the 5 chapters of Part One. The second part consists of two chapters that review ancient and modern views of the spiritual journey.
The third part consists of 4 chapters that provide practical advice for persons undergoing a spiritual emergency. The global relevance of spiritual emergency is covered
in an Epilogue. There are 3 appendices: "The Spiritual Emergence Network," "A Vision for a Twenty-Four Hour Care Center," and "Spiritual Emergency and Mental-Health
Professionals." The authors write: "We have tried to write the book we wish had been
available during our own involvement with spiritual emergency. We hope that this
volume will reassure, inform, and inspire those who are affected by the process of
transformation, helping them to change these crises into opportunities for healing" (p. 7). |
