The Prophetic Vision of Merlin: Prediction, Psychic Transformation, and the Foundation of the Grail Legends in an Ancient Set of Visionary Verses

Stewart, R.J.

Stewart is an Arthurian scholar, and in this work is devoted to a little known ancient work, The Prophecies of Merlin, which were embedded in Geoffrey of Monmouth's History of the British Kings, written in the 12th century. Stewart attempts to show how Merlin's prophecies provided a vision of 20th-century British history and beyond. The prophecies are also presented as an esoteric manual on psychology that describes the methods of inspiration used by Celtic seers. It is this aspect that is espe- cially relevant today, when so many people are interested in developing their consciousness. There are two main parts, the first consisting of 6 chapters on "The Power in Theory" and the second consisting of 4 chapters on "The Power in Practice." There follow two summary chapters and three scholarly appendices.
