Nickell examines the evidence for encounters with various "entities," such as demonic spirits, ETs, guardian angels, monsters, spirits, haunts, poltergeists, divine visitations, and fairies. He examines many cases from the annals of the 19th and 20th centuries. Recommended readings are provided for each chapter. The Afterword, unfortunately, is provided by Robert Baker rather than Nickell. Nickell is unusual in that he investigated these experiences in person. On the whole, he found "no credible evidence." This is a worthwhile book for those who have had exceptional encounter experiences and before going further, want to become informed concerning the various delusions and pitfalls to which other people have succumbed. | |
