In this volume, psychologist Persinger, after summarizing the patterns noted in his analysis of the verbal reports of spontaneous psi presented in Part I, sets forth a number of models and mechanisms to explain those reports. The behavioralistic and physicalistic emphasis is indicated by the chapter headings: "Conditioning and Learning," "Paranormal Experiences in Terms of Normal Behavioral Mechanisms," "Interesting Speculations on Paranormal Reports Based on Extensions of Conditioning Models: Paranormal Experiences as Responses to Actual External Stimuli," and "Possible Physical Mechanisms for Paranormal Responses." In the latter he deals with extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields, infrasonic stimuli, high voltage static fields, and an environmental peltier effect. | |
