In the Foreword to this compendium of accounts of anomalous phenomena Arthur C. Clarke says: "At a generous assessment, approximately half this book is nonsense. Unfortunately, I don't know which half" (p. 4). The editors did the research for the book (and for a television series presenting some of the material entitled Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World). The phenomena covered are hexing, poltergeists, clairvoyance, PK, hauntings, telepathy, stigmata, fire-immunity, dowsing, survival, and reincarnation. The editors tried to present the best cases, and they are well-illustrated. In an Epilogue Clarke attempts to offer explanations for some of the phenomena and gives his personal ratings as to the validity (or lack thereof) of the subjects covered in the book. | |
