Medical and Psychological Scientific Research on Yoga and Meditation: An Introduction and Complete List of 452 Scientific Reports. (2nd ed.)

Peo, Scandinavian Yoga & Meditation school

This bibliography was compiled from entries in Psychological Abstracts under the terms Meditation, Yoga, and Zen, and from the Medlars II data base. Additional articles are included that were not located in these two indexes. The bulk of the material is from the 1970s. Although periodical articles are stressed, some books are included. An introduction indicates the primary areas of the scientific study of meditation: in medicine and psychiatry, physiology of meditation, effect of meditation on glands and the nervous system, and physical yoga. Physician Hans Hogenhaven contributed a survey, "The Physiology Concerned and a Review of the Medical and Psychological Scientific Reports of the Last 10 Years." The bibliography is alphabetical by author's last name. The complete bibliographic citation is given in the left column of each page and an abstract in smaller type in the right column. Abstracts range from 2 to 40 lines.
