This is an anthology whose purpose is to survey "traditional religious perspectives on nature, and show how contemporary theologians, spiritual teachers, and religious institutions are responding to humanity’s devastation of the environment" (p. xi). There are 8 sections, whose titles and the number of selections they contain in parentheses are as follows: I. The Moment of Seeing: Selections From Nature Writers Linking Nature and Spirit (9); II. How Have Traditional Religions Viewed Nature? (18); III. Ecotheology in an Age of Environmental Crisis: Transforming Tradition (12); IV. Ecotheology in an Age of Environmental Crisis: Ecofeminist Spirituality(10); V. Ecotheology in an Age of Environmental Crisis: Spiritual Deep Ecology (6); VI. Religious Practices for a Sacred Earth (10); and VII. Ecology, Religion, and Society (18). Also provided are suggestions for further reading, a list of organizations to contact, and information about the authors. This is a good place for Westerners interested in ecotheology to begin. As the compiler admits, Judaeo-Christian views predominate. But when one considers the cultures that are most responsible, in a sense this is appropriate!
