From Newton to ESP: Parapsychology and the Challenge of Modern Science LeShan, Lawrence
LeShan explores the reasons why parapsychology has made little progress in the past 50 years and what can be done about it. He charges that parapsychology has failed to take into account the insights of the great physicists concerning the nature of reality, but instead has chosen the model of 19th-century physics. He draws on the writings of Eddington, Einstein, and Planck to show that we live in a multi-tracked universe in which what is anomalous or paranormal on one track could be perfectly normal on another track. He points out that the physicists' multi-tracked universe is corroborated by the 20th-century social scientists' concept of alternate realities. He presents a new model of science that allows for psi and illustrates it with two applications: a model research program and a successfully completed research project in teaching psychic healing.
