The Golden Handicap: A Spiritual Quest. A Polio Victim Asks, "Why?" and Turns His Life AroundOppenheim, Garrett, with Oppenheim, Gwen
Stricken by polio at 14 months, Garrett Oppenheim, a psychotherapist, relates his life in terms of "my own inquiry as to how my handicap has affected me and the people who relate to me ... and how it has led me into a more spiritual life" (p. x). The Prologue consists of an EHE he had when two years old. It is his first conscious memory. He became aware of an incredibly great and beautiful reality while watching the sunrise. It made him feel special. He now know it is everyone’s birthright. In a sense, this is an EHE autobiography, for he saw apparitions as a child, synchronicities as an adult, became a past life therapist, and has had reincarnation experiences. At the end of each chapter he provides advice to handicapped persons and those must relate to them. Usually the advice is related to the subject matter of that chapter.
