Psi and the Mind: An Information Processing Approach Irwin, Harvey J.
An Australian psychologist explores ESP and PK in terms of information processing theory, which is based on a model of the human mind as a system which processes information: it accepts inputs, extracts information from them and stores it, and when required acts upon it and generates outputs. The first three chapters describe the mind as an information-processing system. The next three present an information-processing approach to ESP and the seventh chapter presents an approach to PK. The eighth and final chapter "concerns those characteristics of psi phenomena that may reflect certain holistic principles governing the operation of the human information processing system" (p. vi). Irwin concludes that the approach to psi as an information-processing system is viable and that it provides a theoretical basis for generating productive research hypotheses.
