Sacred Ground to Sacred Space; Visionary Ecology, Perennial Wisdom, Environmental Ritual and Art

Kryder, Rowena Pattee

The author is a visionary artist, teacher, and healer. She founded Creative Harmonica Institute in Mt. Shasta, CA, in a sacred temple built according to the principles set forth in this book. She says: "My thesis is that the resacralization of our lives and environment can come about through an awakening of our imaginal faculties. Through this interior awakening, all the beauties of our terrestrial Earth can be seen in a subtle state, as the pure Light of Cosmic Intelligence. ...To open to nature in this way is to see through the senses to a more real and sacred world ... that I call the archetypal realm. At the same time, we need need to accept how things are" (p. xv). She describes how to tap the imaginal state and the language of color and to explore the pattern of subtle energy and light in nature. She turns to Temenos, or the sacred centers of temples, teaching how to create sacred space and practical ways to manifest our imaginal visions with devotional work and very little money. She notes that her teachings have been tested by her own experience but her approach is nonetheless experimental and continually changing. The 72 colored photographs depict several of the stages involved as she built her temple in Mt. Shasta, themselves an inspiration.
