Psyche and MatterFranz, Marie-Louise von
This anthology of Jungian psychologist Marie-Louise von Franz contains 12 of her essays dealing with the relationship between mind and matter, five of which are published here in English for the first time. They were published between 1960 and 1986, but they have been revised and updated for this volume. In addition to six pieces on aspects of synchronicity, there is an overview of Jung’s views on psyche and matter, one on the world soul, two on time, one on "psyche and matter in alchemy and modern science," and one on the microcosm/macrocosm from the Jungian viewpoint. The Jungian view of psyche and matter is especially relevant to those who are trying to incorporate their EHEs into their lives because Jung had firsthand knowledge of the process involved. He was open to and aware of the importance of the numinous, as is von Franz, who worked closely with him. Moreover, synchronicity is associated with those moments when people own their exceptional experiences and act on them, so it is important to understand the nature of synchronicity, a subject in which Dr. von Franz is well versed.
