Foundations of Parapsychology: Exploring the Boundaries of Human CapabilityEdge, Hoyt L., Morris, Robert L., Rush, Joseph H., & Palmer, John
Offered as a textbook, this is "primarily a summary of the methods, research findings and theories" (p. xv) of parapsychology. The authors also have tried to present a fair summary of the skeptical viewpoint. Part I, by J.H. Rush, presents an overview of parapsychology. Part II, on "Research Methods and Findings," contains 9 chapters by R.L. Morris, J. Palmer, and Rush on the methodology of psi research and the findings based on that research. Part III, "Implications: Scientific, Philosophical and Social," contains 3 chapters by H.L. Edge with one co-authored by R.L. Morris. Part IV, by R.L. Morris, consists of a brief summary in which he states: "This book is a combination of text, progress report, personal and intellectual statement by four colleagues, and case study" (p. 382). There are two statistical appendices and name and subject indexes. Each chapter ends with a list of "thought questions," and most also with a summary (i.e., list) of basic terms indicative of the main subject matter of the chapter. Each chapter has its own contents listing of subsections. There is an extensive bibliography of references cited in the book.
