Global Mind Change: The Promise of the Last Years of the Twentieth CenturyHarman, Willis
The author spent many years both as an electrical engineer and as a social scientist, but for several years he has gone beyond both types of discipline to see that which is beyond the current Western mindset and that which lies ahead—in time. This book is rooted in two seminal convictions: that "perhaps the only limits to the human mind are those we believe in" and that "the real action today is changing fundamental assumptions." There are six chapters, each one consisting of observations and findings that bolster that chapter's leitmotif. They are (1) "The Scientific Heresy: Transformation of a Society," (2) "Consciousness as Causal Reality," (3) "Challenges to Positivism and Reductionism," (4) "The New Paradigm in Psychology: "Legitimating the Transpersonal," (5) "Transforming the World Macroproblem," and (6) "Aspects of the World System Change." Psi phenomena are discussed in Chapters 3 and 4, where they are viewed primarily as possibilities indicative of a new worldview rather than as central girders in the new structure that may be taking shape.
